The MvBZ went on a “fact-finding mission” in July 2017 to establish a collaboration between Freie Universität Berlin and Western University in Baku. The trip culminated in organizing an International Summer School that will bring together seasoned gender scholars with junior academics (doctoral candidates and post-doc researchers) from the southern Caucus and central Asia who are working on gender-related topics. The goals of the Summer School are first to consolidate and professionalize gender studies in the southern Caucusus and central Asia and, more generally, to integrate gender-sensitive perspectives into schools of higher learning. This is especially critical in view of pressing social questions related to ongoing transformation processes in the region. Young scholars will be emboldened to integrate gender-sensitive perspectives into all areas of their academic careers. Beyond integrating gender-related aspects into their research, they should utilize innovative gender-sensitive teaching methods and orient their publishing activities to these concerns as well.
