The Handbook on Equal Opportunities in the Egyptian Higher Education System is the result of the combined efforts of many actors: All were participants in the DAAD-funded project Gender Equality in the Egyptian Higher Education System. The project was carried out 2012-2014 as a cooperation between Freie Universität Berlin and the universities of Alexandria, Cairo, Sohag und South Valley. The handbook which was published in English/Arabic was presented to public in Cairo on September 28, 2016.

The event was titled Equal Opportunities and Gender Studies at Egyptian and German Universities and was carried out as a cooperation of MvBZ and Freie Universität Cairo Office. It took place in Cairo-Zamalek in the venue of DAAD/DWZ. Keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Hania Sholkamy of American University in Cairo – title of the keynote: Can women thrive in a toxic environment? Reflections on development and gender work in Egypt. After the presentation of the handbook Prof. Dr. Jasmin Fouad introduced the Master Gender and Development which was launched by the Faculty of Economics and Political Science of Cairo University on October 5th, 2016. Prof. Dr. Jehan Ragab presented the Girl’s Day at South Valley University (SVU) as one example of equal opportunity activities at SVU and a sustainable outcome of the project.
