The history of the Margherita von Brentano Center (MvBZ) can be viewed as a practice of feminist archiving within the university. We understand the archive as a technology of power that generates institutional memory and shapes the conditions under which feminist knowledge is legitimized. From this perspective, the MvBZ’s path to institutionalization—its organizational forms, its development, its successes, and its challenges—reveals both the possibilities for integrating feminist insights into universities and the structural and epistemic boundaries that condition its recognition and academic authority. In this event, Heike Pantelmann and Sabina García Peter, both staff members at the MvBZ, will provide insights into their research on the institutionalization of gender studies at the FU Berlin.
