Supporting publications and publishers in Gender Studies is a core duty of the Margarita von Brentano Center as it carries on the long-standing activities of its predecessor institutions.
This lengthy history of support for publishing has the aim of raising the profile of Gender Studies by participating in the development of advanced publication models. For some time now, the center has subscribed to the principle of open access. Within this sphere of duties, in addition to publishing a series of monographs (1985–2007) and the open access journals querelles-net and QJB (Querelles: Yearbook of Women’s and Gender Studies), the center develops and implements concepts and models for modernizing publishing activities in Gender Studies. One current pioneer project is the DFG-sponsored establishment of the GenderOpen open access repository. In parallel, the Margherita von Brentano Center is involved in establishing a publication for German-language Gender Studies research in collaboration with the Fachgesellschaft Gender Studies. Additionally, the support program periodically publishes advisory sessions and offers workshops on publishing dissertations and academic articles.
