Upcoming lecture series: Gender, Sexuality, Power: Critical Perspectives on the US and Beyond

News from Apr 08, 2026

At a time when gender and sexuality are once again at the forefront of cultural and political struggle—from intensifying assaults on abortion rights in the United States to the targeting of LGBTQIA+ communities and the racialized policing of bodies—this series seeks to critically engage with these urgent developments. In the wake of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and amid escalating far-right attacks on healthcare access, trans rights, and gender-affirming care, the lectures will explore how gendered and sexual norms continue to shape public life.

Bringing together researchers from Freie Universität Berlin alongside international colleagues, the series highlights cutting-edge work in Gender, Sexuality, and Queer Studies. Approaching the topic from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives, speakers will examine how power has been organized through (or around?) gender and sexuality, both historically and in our present political moment.

The lecture series is open to students from all disciplines, members of the university community, and the broader public. Please find all dates for the lecture series HERE.

We warmly invite you to attend the lecture series “Gender, Sexuality, Power: Critical Perspectives on the US and Beyond”, held on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Gr. Hörsaal at Arnimallee 22, 14195 Berlin.
