Searching for the feminist “sexual violence prevention education” in Korea

The presentation examines an impasse that occurs as the ‘sexuality as violence’ concept comes to have the discursive power regulating education for sexual violence prevention and sexual education in schools, and tries to look for the possibility of a feminist education for sexual violence prevention in Korea. The feminist movement against sexual violence in Korea is an axis leading a trend in education emphasizing the prevention of ‘sexuality as violence’ recently. Though movement against sexual violence brought forward ‘sexuality as power relations’, it was minimized to ‘sexuality as violence’. The talk will cover how the present education for sexual violence prevention is paradoxically forming normative heterosexual manhood and womanhood and why it fails to prevent sexual violence.

Diese Veranstaltung ist Teil der Themenwoche „Sexualisierte Diskriminierung und Gewalt“ an der Freien Universität Berlin, 06.–09.09.2017
